Trevor Maida was announced as the newest addition to the Texas swimming and diving staff on Tuesday, marking Bob Bowman‘s second hire after associate head coach Erik Posegay. He will serve as an assistant coach after previously being on staff at Louisville, Wisconsin, and Indiana.
“I’m thrilled to join Bob Bowman’s staff at the University of Texas,” Maida said. “Working at Texas has always been a dream of mine, and I am eager to begin this next chapter. Bob [Bowman] is one of the most accomplished coaches in history, and I am deeply honored to have the opportunity to work alongside him. I want to express my gratitude to Bob, Erik [Posegay] and the entire staff for this incredible opportunity.”
The press release announced that Maida is being brought on to lead the sprint program. Bowman said in part of the hire:
“He is a forward thinker who has proven results at the NCAA and International levels. His strong work ethic, creativity and recruiting expertise will be huge assets for our program. Most importantly, Trevor is a world-class human who will inspire and guide our athletes through their collegiate journey and beyond.”
Maida spent the 2023-24 season as an assistant at the University of Louisville. While there, women’s team recorded a runner-up finish at ACCs, their highest since 2018. The Cardinals women finished 6th in the team standings at NCAAs while the men finished 15th.
Prior to Louisville, Maida spent four years as an assistant at the University of Wisconsin. During his time there, the Badgers saw a resurgence, including the men’s team swimming their first NCAA scoring relays since 2017. He also gained international experience while at Wisconsin, coaching Taiko Torepe-Ormsby to tie the New Zealand National Record and qualify for Worlds in the 50 meter free.
Maida started his collegiate coaching career while pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Sports Studies at St. Bonaventure. After an injury ended his swimming career, he stayed on deck as a student assistant coach, taking over primary responsibility of the distance group. He then spent a year as a volunteer assistant coach at Indiana for the 2018-19 season.
